Personal Essay template

Canonical template for the Personal Essay format.

## Opening scene or image
[A specific moment, object, sensory detail, or observation. Do not name the subject yet.]
## Complication or resistance
[Something in the scene resists easy interpretation. The writer begins to think against the
initial reading.]
## Associative movement
[Connected memories, observations, or ideas follow by resonance and contrast, not by argument.
Each move adds a layer to the central question without resolving it.]
## The turn
[The writer arrives at something not known at the opening. Not a conclusion imposed on the
material, but one that emerges from it.]
## Closing image or restatement
[Return to the opening image or land on something new. The reader should feel the arrival,
not just read the conclusion.]
